Frequently Asked Questions

What are the requirements to obtain a puppy?

-We prefer our owners have some background & experience in owning a terrier breed.  Airedales are not for the faint of heart. This is an intelligent active breed that prefers to be engaged and requires a good amount of exercise to stay fit. Things we consider are prior experience with other breeds & ability to manage lifestyle decisions for the life of your dog.

What size are your Airedales?

-We breed Airedales according to the AKC Standard as written and approved by the Airedale Terrier Club of America.   While there are some variations in size.  The Airedale Terrier should be approximately 23" at the withers or the shoulder.   Our females range from 45-55 lbs and males can range from 55-65lbs at maturity.   The Airedale is a square sturdy breed with good amount of bone and substance. .  Any extreme variations from the standard are not correct.

How can we insure you breed healthy dogs?

-All of our dogs we breed are tested and registered with OFA or the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals.  We also try to have all of our dogs CHIC certified.  A dog achieves CHIC Certification if it has been screened for every disease recommended by the parent club for that breed and those results are publicly available in the database. We routinely test heart cardiac and hips.  Our dogs are regularly examined and we test randomly for things like thyroid, blood, liver, and kidney panels on our dogs.

Do you provide a health guarantee?

-We guarantee our pups will be parasite clear and receive first vaccines upon departure from our home. .  We provide a one year health guarantee your pup will be free of congenital cardiac issues requiring medication or will shorten lifespan of your pup.

-We provide a one year health guarantee your dog will be clear of congential hip dysplasia.

At what age do pups go to their homes

-Pups generally go to their homes between 8-10 weeks of age.  They have their first set of puppy shots, vet check, and are microchipped and registered with AKC reunite.  Pups will be registered with AKC or the American Kennel Club.

What are the temperaments like on your dogs?

Our dogs are ACTIVE, BUSY, OUTGOING, SHOWY,  never shy.  They are get up & go dogs.   Our dogs stand on the tips of their toes, they jump, they steal off countertops, they bark at squirrels, they can also be couch potatoes.   There should never be any sign of aggression in our dogs.  These are family dogs who are raised with children.  They have a good sense of who belongs & who doesn't.  They are a mouthy breed & must be taught early to have a soft mouth.  They are a thinking breed & never quick to start a fight.  They often learn to diffuse one.

They want to be with their families.  I find no preference of affection between males or females.  Our dogs love people.  When well-socialized get along with most domestic cats & dogs with proper rules & training.

What makes us a good breeder?

We pride ourselves on keeping a good relationship with our owners to insure any issues that might arise we are aware of in relation to our breeding stock.   We keep good tabs on the dogs we breed to & know the health history & lifespans of the dogs in our pedigrees.

Well bred Airedales have very few health problems.  This is due to selective breeding.  We breed for health, temperament, & soundness of our dogs.
